Dr. Jason Chan from the Faculty of Medicine, along with RCHK alum Keith Chan, visited RCHK and shared important info about applying to their Medical School, including the application and interview process!
These visits provide our students with valuable opportunities to meet university representatives and faculty members, so we encourage all students to take advantage of these events!
During October the FE office hosted some informative talks, including the University of British Columbia and CUHK's Faculty of Medicine.
Around sixty students from years 10-12 took the PSAT on 11 October in the PAC. This year's PSAT was digital for the first time, and although there were a few hiccups, we managed to successfully pull it off.
There are some positive changes that come with the digital PSAT. Students have more time, on average, to answer each question, so the digital PSAT measures skills and knowledge, not test-taking speed. The reading passages are now shorter and a built-in calculator that can be used on the entire Math section.
We will be sharing tests results with students very soon; please keep an eye out for our email.
All Year 11 students will have a 15 minute meeting with their FE counsellor to discuss their IB DP and CP subject options. This specific meeting CAN occur during class time - but students must let their teacher know in advance.
Possible questions
What subject(s) do you consider to be your area of strength and why?
Are you considering taking IBDP or IBCP? Why?
What are your potential career aspirations? What have you done to investigate career options?
Which countries are you considering for university?
Have you done any research into university course requirements?

Looking for ways to increase your knowledge base in a particular area of interest to you? Then you should be using the MOOC tool in your Unifrog account!
If you're unsure of what you want to study at university, MOOCs are a great way of trying out a subject area.
For example, if you are keen to learn more about architecture and sustainable building design, check out this free 13-week course from MIT. You can learn and explore key scientific principles, technologies, and analysis techniques for designing comfortable indoor environments while reducing energy use and associated climate change effects.

You may have several academic interests, so how do you demonstrate interest to universities when you’re curious about two, three or even more subjects? Below are some suggestions that will allow you to get a more in-depth understanding of various academic subjects and how they can eventually relate to different career opportunities.
Visit college websites. Explore their list of majors and departments. If you are interested in science, then explore the website of a large research university to discover the many specialties within the core science subjects of biology, chemistry, and physics. If you are interested in the humanities, visit the website of a liberal arts college to see how various subjects can be brought together through an interdisciplinary program. You will likely discover new majors and academic fields that you never even knew existed!
Take an online class. Find a MOOC (massive open online course). Unifrog has a MOOC tool which gives students many choices of free online classes.
Explore summer programmes. Many colleges, universities and organizations offer summer programmess that will allow you to explore various academic subjects. Take a look at school websites for more information.
Take a strengths assessment test. Unifrog’s comprehensive psychometric testing is an enjoyable way for students to explore their interests, strengths, and areas for development, and to see how their results relate to possible careers and subject choices. This helps students to build a foundation to then conduct focused careers research in the areas that most interest them. Unifrog’s psychometric testing consists of four quizzes, three tests, and one profile tool.
Newcastle University will be holding a pre-university summer school for students preparing to apply for medicine for the 2025 academic year. Students must be aged 16 and under 18 years old, during the summer school.
